Objectification and How!

In modern India, we have come a long way culturally. With the influence of the West, we quickly learnt to adapt to different forms of lifestyles apart from what we have been originally. However, one thing has remained constant: objectification and body shaming , towards women especially. No matter how much we say we have "evolved", we are really stuck with our notions of having unrealistic beauty standards that we spot on glossy magazines and TV screens.
We see boobs and instantly they are names like headlights, jugs or oranges! Are they big enough? Are they firm enough? If they are saggy, they are rotten. If they aren't perfectly round, they aren't desirable.
We see curves and they are called tyres, or pot bellys! Where did the woman go? Maybe we have to peek inside the pot, but who cares!
We see a woman being open about her sexual life and we, instead of being happy for her clarity of thought about what she likes and what she doesn't, we choose to worry about her "virginity" and might as well ask her to keep her legs closed and lock her vagina in a safe, and not to forget to throw the keys away!
As ridiculous as it sounds, these instants are as true as they are hilarious. And what really is baffling is that it is not only the men in our society who do this to us, but some of the women too!
We speak of evolution of the people in our country. But in reality, our mind needs to evolve too, along with our culture and lifestyle. And we, as the present and the future of India, are solely responsible to bring around the change for the better.
